"Let there be Light"

Ebon Reach has reigned supreme since the rise of the Unholy Eternal. Unchallenged and feeling their power, the Reachers have strode from their caverns to take their places on the surface. The Reach itself remaining an inviolate safe haven. But times are changing. The Reachers are about to find that life is not as easy as it has seemed. In other words, it is time to make them work for it.

"Let there be Light" Roll Table Madness!!

Postby Pondy » Wed Oct 11, 2017 3:53 am

Round 1. Bioluminescent Moss. It will not grow in a well lit environment but will thrive within the Reach. It’s tendrils and roots going deep into the rock itself. It can be killed, but would likely bring the cave down around it. It can be burned back. Magic’d. Frozen. Starved of nutrients. All of which will make it disappear and go dormant. But like death & taxes, it will be back. It will be hard to destroy the moss without destroying whatever it is around or on. And some of the methods used to attempt killing the moss would actually promote its growth in the long run.

Round 2. Myconid Spores. Original myconid spores and growths within the caverns begin to mutate. They are now releasing spores that will attack physical hosts. Resulting in mushroom growth on the people themselves. The Undead are immune to many effects because of what they are - however not all. While not all will impact the undead, there will be side effects nonetheless.

It is anticipated that the Reachers will attempt to clear their home of the glowing contamination that makes it difficult for them to operate. Here is suggested roll table if your character is attempting to magic or physically cleanse the infection. Keep in mind that at some point, one of these attempts will cause the glowing shrooms to ‘mutate.’

Bioluminescent Moss (Dice Roll Table and Effects)
0-25
Light
Your attempts against the moss have failed completely whether by accident or simply miscalculation. The moss continues to glow like a lighthouse in the fog.

26-50
Moderate
Moderate effects against the moss. Effects are not widespread enough to make a difference. Small patches where your efforts show success but for the most part the area is still aglow.

51-75
Severe
Severe. You hit it where it counts. Approximately 75% of the moss is now blackened or disappeared. Rendered ineffectual. There is likely a dull glow still happening within the area.

76-100
Drastic Ugliness
Your efforts are successful. Total darkness restored. All moss appears dead/gone/vaporized.

"Let there be Light" - Myconid Spore Effects!

Postby Pondy » Wed Oct 11, 2017 4:44 am

Myconids have mutated! Infection is now carried to characters and physical beings! Here is suggested roll table for myconid infection.

Myconid Spores (Dice Roll Table and Effects)
0-25
Light
Liberty Cap-Hap. You may experience minor effects of the Liberty Cap. But the dusting is very light/minimal. If you experience it at all, it might leave a mild sense of euphoria, dilated pupils (if you have eyes), spontaneous laughter, or simply feeling distracted. A light ‘feel good’ buzz with minimal effects. If experienced would normally last no more than 3 posts. You may even experience mushroom growth on your physical person (optional). But once plucked will not reappear. However recontamination is possible.

26-50
Moderate
You got dusted with Gold Cap! Moderate effects of altered time perception. Moderate to strong auditory, visual, and tactile hallucinations. You may see auras, strange swirly colors, or even dancing myconids. You may develop enhanced hearing. Your sense of taste will be acute. And colors will be brighter. You are going to have a hard time concentrating. Experience will last three posts or even longer. Again, possibility of mushroom growth on your character. One or more appearing at random. They can be plucked off but effect will be residual. May experience an occasional growth hours after initial infection. Recontamination is possible.

51-75
Severe
You got dusted with Wavy Cap! Effects can be bad. Severe euphoria with mental and visual hallucinations. You may even find yourself seeing spirits of those long dead. Reactions are varied but usually followed by severe nausea, diarrhea, and blueing as the effects begin to wear off. And yes, mushroom growth. You may find patches of skin turning blue and mushrooms beginning to grow on your person. Growth is sporadic and can be painful. Constant plucking may be required. Although the undead are immune to the mental effects, they may find themselves bluer than a smerf and covered in mushrooms since this is the effect of the spores seeking out places to repair, seek nutrients, and germinate. All resulting in blue tinged patches of skin and mushroom growth. These effects are generally longer since you were hit pretty hard. 3-post minimal but may last up to several hours or even days. Recontamination is possible.

76-100
Drastic Ugliness. Seek Medical Attention Immediately.
Blatant Cordyceps Spinoff. You are in for serious trouble. This ailment attacks both the living and the dead. Spores infiltrates the body where it takes root. It infects the mind causing you to lose ability to concentrate or focus. Distracted dizziness. This followed by General itching and skin irritation. Even as far as eyes, gums, and private areas. You gotta scratch, right? This is all the precursor as your body is about to sprout unless you get medical attention. Small mushroom/toadstools will begin to sprout on your body. They seem to like those vital spots and can be quickly debilitating. You need to find treatment! If left untreated you may find yourself in a state of coma. Worst case scenario your character may die and end up compost. Or an undead. Either way. Bad. Effects can happen quickly or over the course of 24 hours before you start to sprout.
